Dallas.

Friday, July 22, 2011

Hi all. Bryan and I are in Dallas this weekend for lots of fun. I had a work event last night at the Texas Rangers game so we drove in early yesterday morning and spent the day whisked away in the world of event coordinating. Everything went great and I even got a chance to spend some time with one of my best friends from college who now lives in Arlington. (Hey Meagan!) Of course I forgot to take pictures of Bryan and I at the game...but, oh well.

Today we are heading to McKinney to meet my grandparents for lunch and then I will spend the day shopping! I cannot tell you how much I look forward to Dallas shopping. Bryan and I will also be celebrating our TWO YEAR anniversary tonight with a fancy schmancy date. I cannot believe that it has been two years since we got married....time flies. Well, actually our anniversary is on Monday, but Bryan will unfortunately be here in the DFW area for a coach's conference while I will head back to the LBK on Sunday, so we're celebrating this weekend instead!

As if that wasn't awesome enough....I got my computer fixed yesterday (can you tell?) so I will be showing off our bedroom once I get back!

Here is a little sneak peek:

I am so in love!

Have a great weekend!

Lately

Wednesday, May 18, 2011

Well, I'm definitely playing catch up with all of the craziness that has been going on this past week! Here is just a little peek at some of it:

Last Thursday, we had a fundraising dinner in Amarillo for a new science building at LCU. Everything went great--the food was perfect, the decor was pretty, and everyone had a good time!

We worked with a really great florist in Amarillo who was able to come up with some pretty things for our small budget.

The next day, we packed up and headed to Dallas for an alumni event at a Rangers Game. I was able to stay with my friend Whitney's parents and we had such a great time!

The event was a little chaotic, but all 200 alumni really enjoyed free lunch and tickets to the game.

Um, I'm obsessed with Lemon Chills....but it doesn't look like Whit likes them much in this picture!

Whitney and I!

We actually left the game right after this picture was taken to go to Six Flags. It was amazing. We didn't really consider the fact that is was Saturday night and the park would be packed which always equals really long lines, but we were able to ride all of the big roller coasters so we were pretty happy! I'd like to think it was because we were strategic in our ride-planning, but there may have been some "sprinting to each ride like we're 6 years old" involved so that might have helped too :).

After all of the craziness (and fun) on Saturday, we packed up and headed home on Sunday and went back to work on Monday....and I'm still recovering. Coordinating 2 big events in 3 days is exhausting and I have just now managed to get my office cleaned (like 30 minutes ago--yes I'm blogging at work, I know, I'm breaking the rules).

On top of all of that, Bryan over-seeded our yard this weekend! So, we've been watering the yard 4 times a day and trying to keep Louie from getting too dirty. Oh, and speaking of Louie, it seems that he has figured out how to jump up on furniture. Dang-it. A bottle of Resolve has found a new home next to the couch because of this.

Happy Wednesday!

Weekend Wowza

Monday, May 2, 2011

Like my title? No? Well, I was trying to be creative.

Alright my friends, this past weekend was an insane one. But fun. Which are sometimes the best kind in my opinion....

It all started on Friday night when my friend Jessica and I headed to a much anticipated Miranda Lambert concert. It was amazing. For those of you who don't know, Miranda and I are friends. We met at a gas station 3 Christmas's ago while driving through Texas and have been besties ever since. Well....I am joking about the bestie part but I really did get to meet her and get her autograph when our families randomly stopped at the same gas station my sophomore year of college. It was a huge deal since she's my absolute favorite country singer. And still is. So, naturally the concert was a huge deal too, and she didn't disappoint!

Don't you love those concert moments when the whole audience is singing along? Me too.

At the end of the video Miranda held her microphone up for the audience to sing....but I had to cut that part out, because you can hear me singing, and we are NOT going there.

Me and Jess enjoying the concert ambiance (iPhone pic):

A group of us from LCU headed to Houston bright and early on Saturday morning to host an alumni event at the Houston Astros game. The day was absolutely crazy and I learned a nice little tidbit that I will remember for the rest of my life: No matter how much you plan or how many things you think you have in place, they can all go wrong at a moments notice. There were several things (most of which were out of my control) that just didn't go as intended during the set-up of the event, but thankfully, once guests started arriving everything smoothed itself out and everyone had a great time.

We had about 200 alums attend as well as several future Chaps. Free dinner, free tickets, and a win for the Astros made for a good night!

More importantly, I was able to stay with my Aunt Kathy and Uncle Neil during the weekend! It was amazing getting to spend some quality time with them. Kathy stayed with our LCU group the whole time, so she was there for the entire set-up and tear-down of the event and was definitely one of the hardest workers around. I love her SO much and feel really blessed that I got such a great aunt. We had a lot of fun! Sadly, I didn't get a picture with her (of course I realized that when I got home), but she was definitely one of my favorite parts of the entire trip!

I did however, get a few pictures with my precious niece Hensley when I met her on Sunday!

Sweetest, most well behaved baby on the planet. No joke. And she is so pretty. And she isn't a chunk like a thought she was, the pictures were just deceiving :).

She slept about 99% of the time that we were there, and I thought it was so adorable that she would sleep with her eyes almost all the way closed. She tried to fight sleep but just couldn't win the battle!

I think this picture is sweet, Alisha may kill me for it, but here is what I mean by almost closed:

Here are a few iPhone pictures...excuse the poor quality, but enjoy the cuteness!

I freaking love that baby!

After they pried Hensley from my hands (kidding, kinda), we headed to the airport....and 5 hours later I arrived in Lubbock. Did I mention that the flight is only supposed to be an hour and a half? Oh yeah, you better believe we were delayed an hour AND had to turn around in the middle of the flight due to computer problems....yes, fun night. But all is well now!

Told you it was a busy weekend! Happy Monday...

Party Girls

Sunday, April 3, 2011

Well, I'm not a party girl, but I did (with the help of some great friends) host a lingerie party for one of my friends from college, Kaitlin Lee!

One of my favorite parts of wedding related events is that you get to see and meet people that have meant something to the bride/groom at different stages/chapters of their lives all together in the same place. This shower definitely had a mixture of friends and family that love Kaitlin so much and it was great to see everyone having fun together.

We did a lot of the traditional shower games, opened gifts, and just spent time together...good memories!

As you know, I'm about the details, so here are a few detail photos of the shower...

We made a bunch of the tissue paper flower balls that are so popular right now for pretty much all of our decorations... I loved the ones we used in my milk glass vases that I've been collecting!

I love bridal shower food....finger food is THE best.

Here are some more flower balls covering the ceiling fan in the living room. Love the polka dots! We (when I say "we", I mean me and my friend Jessica Studer) made these using the tutorial that I found here.

Cupcakes with strawberry icing. I'd never iced anything like this, but it was easy and so pretty!

We put out a few jars and note cards for the girls to write notes of advice/encouragement/memories for Kaitlin. The jars were full by the end of the night!

We also played the clothespin game where you can't say certain words or you get your pin taken. I added little paper rosettes using a tutorial that I found here (hers are much cuter than mine!).

Cute!

Here are more flower balls that we hung around the dining room chandelier. I wish I'd gotten a better shot of this, it looked so cute but I was in a rush taking pictures so a lot of them aren't the best :(.

We got hors d'oeuvres from a local catering company and there were SO good! Everything was gone at the end of the night!

Mini strawberry shortcakes...a last minute idea, but they looked cute!

Here's some of the food, we had more displayed on the coffee table, but I'm sorry to say that I didn't get a good picture of any of it!

The house was full of pretty girls and lots of fun!

Here are most of the LCU girls that were there. Kaitin is in the middle. I am so happy for you, Kaitlin!!!

Good times. I'm all for hosting another shower at my house haha! Have a great Monday!

Random Happenings

Thursday, March 3, 2011

I've been a bad blogger this week! Sorry. I will get better about that starting...now.

Ok, the past couple of days were VERY busy but a lot of fun! As I mentioned in my last post, my sister Julie came to stay with us all week and it was so great getting to see her! We talked a lot, ate, went to the movies, ate, went shopping, ate, and went to the Etiquette Dinner that I helped with on Tuesday night. Oh yeah, and we ate some more. It was amazing.

My friend Whitney, who is the Career Services Coordinator in our office, was in charge of this event and she did a wonderful job! The Etiquette Dinner was a first for LCU, and we had no clue how it would turn out, but it was very successful and I look forward to helping with more of them in the future. Whitney hired a speaker who teaches etiquette dinners professionally to lead ours. We had about 100 upperclassmen come, and we all learned so many table manners that I had never even heard of before!

I was in charge of flowers and basically just helped Whitney out with whatever she needed before and during the event. We chose to do blue and white hydrangeas (my favorite) with white roses and tulips for the centerpieces. We were on a super strict budget, so I was very happy when they came out at about $5.50 each!

This lady was amazing! She literally went over every aspect of a formal dinner and how to handle each situation. Our students really loved it.

After the dinner, Julie and I went home and tried to teach Louie some new tricks...

But we didn't have much luck haha.

We also went and saw "The King's Speech" last night which was SO great. Bryan and I went to an Oscar Party with some friends on Sunday, so I was very anxious to see if it really deserved Best Picture...it did.

Sadly, Julie had to head back to CO today, but I really am so happy that she was able to stay with us. It was great to catch up--I love when people come visit!

And just to end this post on a pretty note, I will leave you with more pictures of our pretty flowers that I look at work today:

I'm  pretty sure we'll be tackling more house projects this weekend! Get excited!

Homecoming!

Monday, February 7, 2011

Hi! It's been a whole WEEK since I have posted! That's very unusual for me, but I have good reason: this past weekend was LCU's Homecoming/Master Follies weekend. As most everyone who reads this knows, I am the Event Coordinator in Alumni Relations so I was VERY busy all last week.

Despite being completely clueless as to what goes on with the "Alumni" side of Homecoming (I was always on the Master Follies side), I think that we (when I say "we" I mean the Alumni Relations Team) pulled off a pretty successful weekend. There are several things that will be changing in the years to come, but I would say that we did the best with what we had and the time that we had to plan it in. I had such a great time meeting alumni and hearing their stories--I can't wait until next year!

The weekend started off with class reunions, which had a pretty good turnout considering the fact that all of our Dallas alumni had to cancel due to weather.

I don't really have any "people" pictures at all since there were university photographers at all the events, so I just brought my camera for detail shots for my portfolio :).

My friend Whitney and I made all the centerpieces for the weekend. I don't normally like daisies at all, but I have to admit, I really like these and LOVE the way they all turned out! We used lilies, Gerber daisies, roses, and bear grass.

These guys were both in Hard Travelers (LCU's band) when they were in school and had a little reunion of their own--it was actually really neat!

My lone picture of the Golden Anniversary Luncheon. I told you...nothing but details! This luncheon went great and I loved seeing all of the 50th reunion class reminisce with each other!

We had a LOT of events going on at the same time (like literally all day Friday and Saturday), but our biggest event was the first ever Alumni Awards Dinner. This was my absolute favorite event of the weekend (besides Follies) and went SO well!

This lady is AMAZING at the piano.

Our awesome programs that the Director of Marketing made for us at the very last minute!

Dr. Jones!

And on to Master Follies! I loved being able to go to every show (we usually helped with them too). On Saturday night (aka the "big" show) we actually got to sit in the front and watch the show in its entirety.  It was really good!

I have very random (and very few) pictures from this. I actually have a lot of people I don't know at all, so I decided not to post those since that's super creepy.

I had to put this one of Sub-T up because they were Avatar and it was hilarious.

I didn't get any of Kappa due to the fact that I spent the time during their show screaming my head off. BUT they won, and I was SO proud!

Here's a very dark picture of a few of them after awards (they were Jack in the Box):

Love!

So....busy weekend. But....FUN weekend!!!

I've been spending the little bit of free time I've had decorating our living room so I'll post pictures of that sometime this week! (if you're lucky)

That's all for now!
