Jungle Invite.

Friday, April 29, 2011

I just made another birthday invitation for sweet little Hudson, who is the precious baby boy of my friend Kendra. He turns 1 in June and I cannot believe it! The party is jungle themed, and I am in love with the wording Kendra gave me. My favorite part is "Please give us a roarrrrrrrr...." So sweet :).

And yes, I changed the address and contact information....so internet creepers, beware.

Have a great day!

My Week In Bullets

Saturday, April 23, 2011

You know when you have those crazy weeks and the only way you can organize their events in your mind is to list them in bullets? No? Okay, maybe it's just me.

Here are a few of the fun, stressful, random, and meaningful events that happened this week.
  • My Birthday! It was a very crazy day at work, and afterwards my sweet friends were nice enough to take me to dinner at Abuelo's (aka very good Mexican food). They even surprised me with a cake and a gift card to Gap!

  • When I got home from my Birthday dinner, I was also surprised to find my sweet husband baking me another birthday cake! (This has been cake week....I've had it for dinner pretty much every night.) He had a game that night, but he still wanted to do something special... so sweet :).
  • If you can't tell, Bryan spelled out "23!" with the candles in the cake. He also ran out of icing, which is why the top is the only part that's iced. Oh, and he pointed out that candle packs only come with 24 candles, so our new definition of being old is when you need more than one pack of candles....which means that in 2 short years, I will be very depressed.
  • Bryan let me pick out the movie for the night....Tristan and Isolde. Very good, but very sad.
  • I also had a great time talking with my mother-in-law, mom, dad,  and aunt Kathy, and listening to the sweetest birthday message from my Nanny and Papaw. That's one of the reasons I love birthdays, you get to talk with so many people that you love!
  • Tuesday was a big day because Bryan and I became an aunt and uncle! Sweet Hensley Rae was born at around 7:00 on Tuesday night. We've been recieving picture updates ever since.

  • We already love her and her chunky cheeks. I can't wait to meet her when I go to Houston next week!
  • Tuesday was also extremely busy because we had the Graduate Dinner for all of the seniors at LCU. We spent the whole day setting up and I got home at around 8:30 that night.

  • Wednesday was yet again busy at work, but the best part of the day was going to meet with our small group at church that night. We've had such a great time getting to know our new small group and we really look forward to Sundays and Wednesdays now!
  • Thursday wasn't really that busy, unless you count me spending an hour killing grass and weeds in the backyard as busy...
  • But I did finish a really great book called The Lake of Dead Languages. It was kind of dark, but really, really good. I'd recommend it to anyone wanting something new to read.

  • On Friday, Bryan and I enjoyed our day off and did pretty much absolutely nothing. I started a new book and we watched Tangled and The King's Speech (loved them both!!), but nothing productive was accomplished....I suppose we all need days like that though, right?
  • Saturday.....Saturday was my sweet sister Laura's birthday!! She turned 19 (which is so hard for me to believe!). Laura, if you're reading this, I hope you have a very happy and blessed year! I look up to you so much and I appreciate your sweet, genuine personality everyday!! Love and miss you!!
  • I also got a chance to go shopping (where I might have spent a little too much money...), and went to lunch with one of my good friends, Megan, at this new place called Manna. If you are local and haven't been, you need to go! It doesn't even feel like you're in Lubbock, and the food is great! After lunch Megan and I did some more shopping and I picked up the cutest gifts for Hensley....like so cute they make me want to cry. I can't wait to give them to her next weekend!
I hope everyone has big plans for Easter Sunday!! Enjoy the warm weather, new dresses, and time with family and friends, I know I will!

    Oh Baby!

    Tuesday, April 19, 2011

On Tuesday night at around 7pm, Bryan and I became an uncle and aunt! Our sweet niece Hensley was born weighing 8lbs 14oz and measuring at 21 inches long. We are so happy and can't wait to meet her in a couple of weeks!

Babies are the best. Welcome to the world, Miss Hensley!!

    Birthdays, Weddings, and Busy-ness

    Sunday, April 17, 2011

Is everyone else as busy as I am during the Spring? This last week has been absolutely crazy, but really fun. Which explains my lack of blogging. That will be better starting now now!

Here is what we did this weekend...

On Friday, we had another Lubbock Alumni Luncheon up at LCU. After we had that all cleaned up, I headed home and got started getting ready for our garage sale. I paused to go to dinner with a few of my friends at the one and only Pei Wei  (we had a great time!), and then I went and bought more garage sale supplies. Now, a couple of weeks ago when I was originally planning the garage sale, it was just going to consist of the junk from my house, but after talking with a couple of my friends we decided to include their junk too! So, at about 10:00 at night Alli and Whit came over to began the long process of hanging signs and tagging everything for the next morning. Here is just tidbit of the mood that night:

I apparently thought this whole situation was hilarious since I never stopped laughing! Anyways, we were up till about 2am setting everything up, and then had to get up again at 6:30am to set everything out on the driveway. It was a ton of work, but definitely worth the $473.50 that just I made alone!! The other girls made a ton as well, and we're all junk free! I have definitely jumped on the garage sale train....we will be having another at the end of the summer.

After cleaning everything up we got ready for our friend Kaitlin's wedding. If you know me, you know I'm a sucker for weddings. I cry every.single.time. This wedding was definitely no exception. Kaitlin looked beautiful, the weather was perfect, and my friends and I had a good time. Here's few pictures of the night:

The ring bearer was possibly the cutest thing I've ever seen. He even went up and took Kaitlin's bouquet in the middle of the ceremony haha!

    My pretty friends!

    AND Rosa's catered....amazing!

     Loved that candy bar!!

     The beautiful bride and I:

Kaitlin and her dad did the funniest father-daughter dance ever! It started out very sweet and traditional, but then they surprised everyone with a choreographed remix...complete with money :).

I came home exhausted, but the busy-ness didn't stop there! We hosted our small group on Sunday night at our house, which was very fun! I always have a great time talking with everyone and am so thankful we have found a group of church friends we fit with.

And tomorrow's my birthday! The big 2-3. I can't believe a whole year has passed since the last one. 22 was an important year for me; I graduated college, bought a house, got a "big girl" job, and got a dog. Lots of very big things!! I hope and pray that this next year has as many exciting things in store as the last one. :)

Well, I'm SO tired, so I'm getting in bed. Have a great week!!

    Blogging

    Wednesday, April 6, 2011

(Um, get ready for a long post.)

I am a paranoid person by nature. When I first started blogging, I was always extremely worried of what people would think about what I wrote. I thought (and sometimes still do), "Do people make fun of me for this?", "Is what I'm saying even worth reading?" But then I realized that really, I don't care what other people think, because I don't do this for them, I do this for me. Let me take a moment to explain why.

I remember a couple of years ago, a few of my friends were poking fun at people who blogged. I did too, mostly because I didn't understand the point of it or why people would actually think that others would want to read their random thoughts and life happenings. But those opinions have definitely changed for me now. Over the past eight months, this blog has become a creative outlet for me (just in case you haven't noticed haha). I don't do this thinking and hoping that other people will care enough to read (although that is nice too), I blog mostly because it feels good to be able to get out all of the crazy thoughts and ideas that are bouncing around in my head. The fact that people are nice enough to read, comment, and follow along is just an added perk that has turned into something I really appreciate.

More importantly, I have found that blogging is a huge motivation for me to actually live the life that I want to live, and make our house into the home I know it can be. I probably get one or two real-life comments a week about how much we do with our house, or how busy we seem, and I have to say that honestly a lot of that is because of "the blog".  When I started this whole thing last July, I talked a lot about what I wanted to do, and what I wanted our house to be like, but never actually did anything about it. We spent most of our time sitting around, not doing anything to our house, not spending time with our friends, and basically not enjoying this little chapter of our life that will be nothing but a memory in a few short years.

Now however, things have definitely changed, and this blog has become something like an accountability buddy to me. We complete projects because I know that I need something to post about during the week (yes, I'm being serious). I post pictures of our life and the things that we do with our friends and family because I know that I'll regret it years from now if we never did anything but sit a home alone watching TV. I talk about my random thoughts and the little moments in life, because doing that forces me to "be present" and appreciate the life that I have right now. All of these factors have made both Bryan and I much happier, and much more productive people. No, my writing is not the best (in fact, I write just like I talk in case your wondering), and I don't really post any profound thoughts or events. In fact, everything I post on here is really only about 1/8 of what goes on in our lives, but still, it has more than helped the kind of lives we lead.

We are living the life that we want to live, and I'm sure we'll keep doing that. And our little blog will be along for the ride. And you will too, if you want. When we move to a new city, move into a new house, change jobs, have a baby, have another baby, so on and so forth, this blog will still serve as my main outlet for everything going on in our sweet, usually happy, busy little life.

    So....explaining why I blog...check.

And since posts are always better with pictures, here is one of a graduation announcement I just made for my friend Jessica Studer. I am loving the flowers!

I also wanted to say Happy Birthday to my sweet, sweet mother-in-law!!! I know you're moving into your new home and probably won't get a chance to read this, but Bryan and I both love you so much and really appreciate the person that you are. You are such a big role model for me, and I am so grateful for that! We hope that you have a wonderful year!

Whew. If you made it through ALL of that you get an A+ for the day. Good job.

    Have a great Wednesday!

    Birthdays and Sick Days

    Wednesday, February 9, 2011

Blah, I've felt like such a slacker lately mostly due to the fact that I feel like DEATH. I've had a 101 degree fever all day today...and I don't think it's going to get better anytime soon. I don't do well with being sick, especially when there are other things I need/want to do!

I also wanted to send out a shout-out to my WONDERFUL mom for her birthday!!! Sorry, I'm almost late....but this fever thing kind of threw me off. Anyway...thank you for being SO amazing and for loving me even though I probably drive you crazy 90% of the time. You are so talented and fun and I want to be like you when I grow up! LOVE YOU!

I used the oreo cake picture again because I know you liked it :).

I will hopefully (depending on how I'm feeling) be doing some more fun projects this weekend so there should be some interesting posts coming up!

    Ella's Birthday Invitation

    Tuesday, February 1, 2011

Hi everyone! Today I'm going to show you a birthday invitation I made for one of my friends, Kendra (Hey Ken!!). Her daughter, Ella, is turing three this month (I cannot believe she is already three!), and Kendra asked if I would make a Minnie Mouse themed invite. She even sent me a few pictures of Ella all decked out in her Minnie costume to use on the invite.

    Here it is:

I love the way it turned out!

...I don't have much else to talk about, so I guess that's it for now!

**I just took off the address for those creepy internet people--don't know why I didn't do it in the first place! (smacks head with hand)...**

The BIG 2-4 and Something Sweet

    Wednesday, January 12, 2011

    Hi everyone!

I would like to make today's post special for my sweet husband. He is the most genuine person I know and he makes me laugh every day (not to mention he is quite good with home improvement projects). I am SO thankful for him and everything he has brought to my life. So...happy 24th birthday Bryan!! I am so excited to see what your 24th year holds for the two of us (or, I guess he's beginning his 25th year...yikes, he's old!). I love you!!

(Um, yes. The oreo cake is genius.)
Sadley, Bryan and I won't be together for his birthday (this is the 6th, yes sixth year that this has happened), because he has to go to coaching camp for baseball....sad day. But we plan on celebrating with a cake and everything when he gets back!!

In honor of Bryan's birthday, I have chosen to share one of his all-time favorite dessert recipes: Chocolate Chip Cookies! My mother-in-law, Judy, gave me this recipe last summer and I will be forever grateful! We've made these approximately 129,294,345 times since then and now you can too!

    Ingredients: (Makes about 32 cookies)

    -2 1/4 cups flour
    -3/4 cups sugar
    -3/4 cups light brown sugar
    -1 tsp salt
    -1 tsp baking soda
    -1 tsp vanilla extract
    -2 sticks of butter, softened
    -2 eggs
    -1 cup chocolate chips

(that was all from memory, yessssss)

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Mix all ingredients in a large mixing bowl.

Place on greased baking sheet and bake for 9-10 minutes or until golden brown.

    Enjoy!!

I can have a batch of these in the oven in 10 minutes--they are so easy to make so you have no excuse not to try them!

I would also like to take this moment to make a belated birthday shout-out to my Aunt Kathy (I told you I would do it!! *insert evil laugh here*). Happy **th Birthday, Kathy!! Sorry I forgot!! Love you!
