Grand Entrance

Bryan did a little project for me this past weekend that I just love. I started planning this on Labor Day, people. That's how long it's been. What is this project, you ask? Well, I was so over our red door with our red address number on our red brick house that I decided I needed a change!

Then, I came across this picture (which I cannot for the life of me figure out where it's from, I saved it like a year ago...help, please?)...

...and fell in love!

I just had to do something similar (or rather, had to have Bryan do something similar haha).

Here is our door before (last September):

Yes, my reflection in this picture is awesome.

And here it is now:

I am in love. We (Bryan) removed the storm door, filled the holes around the frame, painted the door and frame, and applied the adorable (and affordable) address sticker from the Etsy Shop, Single Story!

Now all I need is a pretty wreath and a few other fun things to make the front patio complete!

  2. I always wanted a glass door. I wonder if you got rid of it or are you planning to put it back up? Either way, the "after" looks very nice. Love the numbers on it.

  3. That looks great!! Kanyon and I recently got rid of the brass storm door on our house but had no choice but to replace it since we're in the country and the sand is worse out here. But we are about to paint the door! Too bad house numbers don't matter out here otherwise I would do that too! :)

  4. Thanks everyone! And Jacki, the glass door isn't making a return. It was actually broken, we couldn't get it to close all the way!

Erika...I've been reading your blog and I'm a little obsessed! I love the way you write--it is so fun to read!!

  9. Love it. Getting ready to paint ours... any tricks? Did he sand it first? What type of paint did you use?

  10. Amanda--Thank you!

He very lightly (and quickly) sanded it just to get off all of the dirt/residue from over the years. Then he wiped it clean with a rag and painted. I bought the paint at Lowe's. I didn't even look at swatches, I just told them that we needed basic black exterior paint. Keyword is "exterior"--make sure to say that regardless of what swatch you choose. It should be in an eggshell finish. He painted with a small foam roller so that it looks smooth--no brush strokes!

Hope this helps! Thanks for reading!

  11. Thanks Katy! Again, it looks great! We are going with a color between a cornflower and navy. The house is tan, and the porches and deck are a deep brown. I wanted color, or else I would have chose brown.

  15. I just love it! And it looks better without that storm door. I think you just have to put a wreath on it to make it look more stunning.
