Etsy Pillow Options For A Boys Room

Monday, June 22, 2015

Hello! Hope everyone had a good weekend. We have bacon on the stove, lots of family coming into town for the big wedding this weekend, and shopping to do today, so I am happy girl.

We finished Parker's big boy room last September and have absolutely loved it, BUT there were a few things I never completely finished due to me being very pregnant and overwhelmed with other "nesting" duties. Since we are back to a normal routine now, I thought it would be good to tackle these last few items in the big boy room.

The first priority is adding a cute decorative pillow to each bed.

Part of me is still on the fence about doing this since it's for a 3-year-old boy's room and there are already two pillows on the bed…but the impractical give-me-the-pretty-things part of me is calling for something cute to top everything off.

1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6

Here are my favorites that I found on Etsy. I had originally found another ABC pillow when I was planning his room, but now the shop that is was from is closed. Bummer, man. I obviously want them to be on both beds, although they don't necessarily have to be the exact same. The other bed will eventually belong to Hayes so I was thinking of monogramming or adding their names to something as well.

Thoughts? Suggestions? I love them all, it is so hard to choose!

We have a lot of color in the room with the book wall and PB quilts, so I can really go with anything on the pillows.

There are also several airplane themed items (the frames from Bryan's grandpa and the curtains) so I don't know if I should stay in that direction or do something completely different. I'm kind of thinking of doing something different since I don't want to be too theme-y. Yes?

So there you go. Hopefully I will get this narrowed down in the next few weeks. (It's only taken me 9 months…)

Have a great Monday!

The Last Night...

Wednesday, September 3, 2014

I think he's too big for the crib.

We are on an apparent mission to traumatize our little boy because we did his first of of pre-school AND his first night in The Big Boy Bed on the same day. Details to come.

But first…the last night in his nursery:

After rushing around all night trying to sew pillow covers, wash nap mats, and pack the perfect lunch (I  used cookie cutters to make special shaped cheese and rice crispies…big stuff), I stopped in my hair-brained, overwhelmed tracks when I realized that it may possibly be the last night I would get to rock my sweet baby in his nursery.

Just another example of busy-ness getting in the way of what's truly important in this life!

I made my way to the nursery at oh….2:30am, snapped this photo (of my child in the most uncomfortable position I've ever seen in my life) and then picked him up, and we rocked.

I hope to always remember the weight of my not-so-small two-year old resting on my not-so-small belly (with his brother kicking like crazy beneath it--his version of "Move it Parker! It's my turn to be rocked!").

I hope to remember the cricket chirping outside and how Parker smelled of Dreft and coconut shampoo.

I hope to remember how exhausted but happy I felt and the prayer that I silently prayed…a prayer for protection and courage as he begins this journey into bigger boyhood.

I hope to remember laying him back down in his bed with a knot in my throat. And I hope to remember silently cursing the door as it groaned its way closed for the 400th time before turning around to notice the peanut butter smeared on the hallway wall :).

This is a good life!

The Plan For Parker's Bedroom.

I am SO excited for this room! I don't know why, maybe it's that I'm adding color to the house, but I can't stop thinking about it.

Allow me to talk through this...it will take a while. :)

Here are the things that Parker loves that will be somewhere in the room: Planes, trains, cars, trucks, ABC's, and books.

For the the basics of the room, I'm sticking with my usuals...bamboo blinds, some kind of natural flooring (hopefully new carpet if I can save enough this year!), and probably a light color on the walls. I was thinking of stripes (still like that trend), and I put a gray paint on here, but it may be more of a beige or closer to white. Oh, and I would love to build sliding barn doors for the closet. It is a really wide double-door that always gets stuck so it would fix that and look great, too.

For furniture, I scored some awesome deals on Craigslist--two twin headboards (P and baby will share this room eventually), a nightstand, and an amazingly under-priced dresser. I will paint the headboards and nightstand but the dresser is a truly beautiful knotted oak and I'm just going to switch the hardware out on (I'm thinking brass or bronze cup pulls). I am a little worried about fitting both beds in the room that we are planning to use...it will definitely be tight. Part of me is considering bunk beds but I don't like how bunk beds close up a room visually....I don't know yet. The headboards were only $25 together so I won't feel too bad if I go a different direction with that.

For decor, I'm thinking a book wall would be cheap, colorful, and useful. We will still have a playroom so these are the only "toys" that will be displayed. This kid could read all day, so I think he will like it. We also have some vintage airplanes prints that were passed down to Bryan from his grandpa that I plan on using. Excited for that! I like the idea of using a flag and maybe some cute graphic prints with quotes or verses on them if we can make them fit.

For fabrics and bedding, I'm sticking with red and navy, and I might throw some light blue in there with sheets or something. I love the idea of gingham on a simple bedskirt. I also saw a really cool linen-look map fabric that I may use for curtains.  For a pop of color (to tie in the book wall colors), I want to get a couple of those ABC pillows. (Etsy) OH, and I saw the army blanket idea on Sarah's House like 6 years ago and promised myself I would use it if I ever had a boy.

Here are some of my main inspiration pictures. All of them can be found on this board on Pinterest. A lot of them are really designer-ish, so our room would look more livable, but I love the overall looks...

I think that's everything in a nutshell. :) Once I finally make up my mind about the bed situation we can get to work on the room! Any suggestions? It's a weird room set-up so a bunk bed would either go right by the window, or right next to the closet...what do you think of bunk beds vs. twin beds?
